Bow Hunting Massachusetts is now on Instagram and Twitter

I know there are a lot of purist out there who never check their phone while in the woods... Well I'm not one.

For those who have a smartphone...
I have created a MA Forum type instagram it's #bowhuntMA

So far it's pretty cool and getting a lot of early action. Gives you something to do if you're bored in your stand.

Same thing goes for Twitter if that's more your thing... @bowhuntmass

Bow hunting Massachusetts: Trail cam check

Wanted to share few more pics from the other days trail cam check. We got some bucks which is nice. A bunch of does big and small. I try not to take any does from this spot since it won't help drive up the population.

This year I posted most of the property to keep outside hunters off the land. For the most part this has worked really well. I have seen the number of deer almost double since I put up the signs.

Massachusetts Bow Hunting: Bear sighting in Sturbridge

The pictures below are of a bear on Finlay Road in Sturbridge. This looks to be a fairly large black bear feeding in a residential neighborhood. Cool to see bears in Sturbridge, not sure if I'd want to be this close.

Check here above a real good article on when to shoot and a few pointers for some beginner bow hunters.

Bowhunting Massachusetts: trail cam pics

Checked my camera exactly a week before bow season starts in Massachusetts.  When I pulled the memory card out and checked it I was surprised to see a good number of pics and more than one buck .

In this pic you can clearly see two good does. The time stamp on this camera is wrong. I'm interested in looking into this to figure out what the real time is. This camera is set up in an orchard which is why you see the deer with their nose to the ground. I was also surprised to see the temperature which appears to be correct at 29 degrees. Relatively cold for early October.

Bow-hunting Massachusetts: Whats a 12-Ring shot...?

My reason for writing this post is to help educate hunters on an archery term. The term is a 12-ring shot which refers to the location of a shot on a deer or target. If you've never heard of this term that's alright... It's not widely used outside of the archery community. Below is the chart which highlights the vitals of a deer and where perfect shot placement is. Keep in mind an arrow in this area is almost always fatal, we are just getting fancy with a chart. Aim small. Miss small.

12/11/10 all great heart shots. 11 being the perfect shot.

Scouting deer in Massachusetts

was scouting a few days ago and I stumbled upon this mystery meat... Any guesses?

2013 Bow season opening day Massachusetts

Just wanted to post something on the opening day this year in MA. I was wondering why it's starting so late. Typically the week prior (OCT 15) is the opening week but this year wasn't the case. The opening day this year is October 21st.

Get your bow string redone at Bobs Archery http://www.bobsga.com  Webster, Ma. He makes an excellent custom string. Typically I replace it once a season. This string has lasted me 3 seasons and still going strong.

Archery season deer food plot in MA

During the past few years I have been pruning some apple trees. Thankfully this year I was able  to get some apples. I have a stand set up not far from this tree loaded with apples.

Hopefully this attracts some of the deer during bow season...

Setting up a deer food plot in Massachusetts

I'm working in a food plot! luckily enough I found a group of Apple trees in which to set my stand. A natural food plot for sure. Unfortunately, the apples will be gone by Oct 21 but the deer may stick around. I did some work over the past year or so and the trees produced a lot of fruit. I will share pics when I get a chance to import from my phone.

Bear siting in Sturbridge Ma

I heard two stories from yesterday. One was that a moose was spotted at tantasqua high school in fiskdale Ma. The second was that a bear was spotted in Sturbridge on shattuck road...

I'm still looking online for any photos
